Long time, no talk.

Its definitely been some time since my last up load, but I don't suppose there are many of you reading an unadvertised blog. I'll just jump right in...

Amazing time at Adepticon 2018. Leisurely worked on my cohort and the two spires I brought with me to Schaumburg, took some classes, meet up with new friends. Good shit that I'll cover in another post (promise).

What follows are photos of the YOD cohort "tabletoped" for The Palatine Spires event at the 2018 Adepticon Inquisimunda event. They are currently being tightened/finished off, little things massing into another big step, but acomplishable in a day off. these photos were quickly snapped before that day. Cheers!

will update soon!

Beginning the 2x3 personal challenge..

so Adepticon 2018 quickly approaches and with that many projects that need to be fast tracked. I've desided, as to not get burnt out, to split up the three main projects into a 2day work frame. So I'll work on one project for 48 hours then move on to the next and so on and so forth until all projects are completed.

So the projects:

     1. Rogue Trader group. 5 miniatures for use in the Palatine Spires Inq28  event at Adepticon 2018. Full build and paint.

     2. Two spire pieces, bigger the better, for the Palatine Spires Inq28 event at Adepticon 2018. Full build and paint.

     3. Paint on Amalathian group, support, and NPC models for same event....

Here's some photographic evidence from the beginning of February...

Venandithoth Void Carriage Survivors

"How our violent re-materializations have set us to this moon on a pillow of irony brothers. Long have we been strangered to the tangible light of our omniscient father, set afloat nebulous maleficence, a creaking barge discovery held at tips of the tongues of daemon immaterial. To now be stranded to this creeping world of nite so similar. Our void home surrogate thrust upon us now should afford us no difference, no respite, no failure! To observe, to question, to surmise, to test, and to emperor willing, illuminate until welcomed back into his reverberated glory."
-Haithan Gail-

Lead Tech Biologist of the Venandithoth Void Carriage

(and now remaining survivors of its reemerging demise)

Almost wandering the the unknown nite moon after the reemergence of their vessel from warp space, the research group armed with cobbled together kit and technologies,  feverishly studies to understand their surroundings and what they may lend to the revival of their emperor recently entombed to the throne, barely sustaining him, upon their departure from mother Terra. The scavenged nature of their equipment poses problems of malfunction ranging from puttering dissonance to catastrophic explosive failure.

Progress on Sisters Commission...

Rounding out the last few pieces on my final commission this coming week, with the trials of opening a new shop and life of course, I've had limited time to work on long  impending projects. -tedious hobby time spent trying to make rough dated pewter models rad has really hurt the feelings of personal custom pieces  leering at me from the shadows, so I've decided this is my last commission job. As fun as they can be, it's hard making something I do in my spare time into work.

Here are some of the last progress shots sent to the client. Finished shots to come including full squads and an Exorcist.

Cheers!

Blackest Legion III

So, I've gotten loads of work in on the Black Legion project so I felt the itch to upload some progress. Feeling a bit more smart about time management with this project starting with the more detailed HQ and character elite models first leaving the troops choices to a more batch approach. We'll start with the progress on Abby...

FullSizeRender.jpg

The basic gap filling and base are blocked in. I'm going to ad in a few small elements at his waist as well as replace his missing ass flap that's pretty common to Terminator plate. Then it's on to the green stuff detailing (I.E. extended tabard and crack filling, as well as some added base details) Almost there uh....here.

Next up is the Champion of the first Chosen unit...

FullSizeRender.jpg

One of my first forays into the "truscale" world, I've always been super stoked on the Chosen model range so I had to try my hand with these. After a bit of drilling the nuts and bolts of the task presented themselves and I had a basic formulation of approach to scaling these beasts up. I've swapped his maul head out for a power Axe and his helmet to something more akin to the MK4 helmet witch I intent to ad a bit more spikey flair. Also switched out his backpack to some more generic Chaos kit. Other than a few basing details this ones almost done, nine more, ha.

Finaly I'm working at a Sorcerer in Terminator plate with all kinds of fancy pains in the fucking ass detail bits...

FullSizeRender.jpg

A bunch more to go here as well, but this kit is a big fucking monster who deserves some crazy attention, spikes, effigy, corruption, skulls...etc. I'm thinking of approaching this guy in beat ass gold or brass on the armor as opposed to black base cause "magic". Other than making him taller and a bit more frightening to a Primarus Marine I  decided  to give one of those dope looking blind rhino helms we've been seeing in the new Death Guard range a try with a warrior helm and some plasticard, digging it so far. Much more to go.

Thanks for looking, talk soon mean it.

Amalathian Interigators

So here's another installment on the Amalathian Retinue. ..

FullSizeRender.jpg

A couple acrobatic pieces made from GW's beautiful Gemini Bodyguard models. Not much change here other than the weird backpacks and weapon repositioning.  Lots of fun ideas on the paint  schemes and fluff for these that I'm super excited about, so stay tuned. Cheers!

The Blackest Legion II

So here is a bit of an update on the Abbadon model for this new black Legion force...

FullSizeRender.jpg
FullSizeRender.jpg

Connections in the arm gaps are the only structural tasks left to go, then it's on to,the green shit. This pieces seems like it's gonna be pretty easy to get together. It is kinda weird that this fuckers terminator armor doesn't have the hip plates or the butt flap. Gonna have to go ahead and fix that. Mabey just some more tabard type stuff. More soon.

The Blackest Legion

Since the early 90's I've had a slight obsession with the Chaos Space Marine aesthetic. Spikes, chains, daemons, evil, all that shit was just too metal for my little twisted mind to pass up. Don't really know why I never created any pieces then, probably too enameled with the sprawling already visually tainted  darkness of the God emperor's Imperium. Now well into my thirties and upon the release of 40k's 8th glorious edition, I've decided to start yet another army project.

Messing, slowly over the past few months, with true-scaling some Chosen models put back over the past couple years, for fun really, I was bit by the bug to actually build out an homage to the iconic Black Legion. the general theme being super heavy conversion and true-scale....!

Recently received (the severely dated and altogether lackluster) Abbadon The Despoiler fine cast model in the post and got to the task of chopping his evil ass up. The following are the fruits of this mornings drill session, and just the beginnings of the task of making this monster into, well, a fucking monster! Enjoy.

Amalathian Inquisitor (and blog site kick-off)

Hello, and welcome to the WITCHHAMMER STUDIOS blog site. This is pretty much a place to showcase my model projects (builds, paintings, kitbashes, commissions) in the grimdark Warhammer 40,000 universe.

I think a good place to start would be to upload a few of my projects in their  varying degrees of completion. We'll start with the Amilathian Inquisitor Retinue if been toiling at in my spare time. I plan to not begin painting these 5 characters until they are fully built so I can attempt to keep their color scheme fairly congruent. This first blog post will focus on the groups figurehead (the Inquisitor) and her servo cherub.

FullSizeRender.jpg

FullSizeRender.jpg
FullSizeRender.jpg

This model is roughly based on the Games Workshop "Inquisitor Greyfax" model of recent release with a few bits shaved, filled or replaced all together. Other star components here are the addition of a Wood Elves head, a new shoulder pad, and an Iron Halo type section on the backpack to represent a sort of psychic amplification unit to assist in the strong comms element in this war band's general narrative. In the latter two photos the servo cherub is incomplete and is magnetized into the base as it will be able to detach into its own for further tactical purpose.

IMG_0132.JPG

Here are the magnet locations in the bases.

IMG_0128.JPG

The general idea here is that The Cherub can detach to capture/occupy objectives, mark targeting for the Heavy Weapons Ancient (dedicated post soon), or general infiltration tactics for the entire group.

Only a small amount of work left on this little piece. Some further detail on the mechedendrites, wiring, a simple maul type weapon and little tabard to go.

I hope if anyone stumbles along these articles they enjoy them, and the many more that will follow. Next I'll post some stuff about the Twin Interigators and maybe some other all together different projects. Cheers and thank you for looking!
